The federal government of Nigeria has again rejected the claims that christians in the country are targets of a genocidal attack, describing the reports of such as nothing but pure lies.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who made the fresh denial in a sttement on Monday, submitted that the claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria is a propaganda sponsored by some external forces.
He accused those behind the genocidal claims of attempting to weaken the country’s unity.
Naijaonpoint reports Idris made the submisison on Monday in Abuja while speaking at the National Unveiling of the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF Abuja 2026), with the Theme, “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the World.”
He said, “External purveyors of untruth are mischaracterizing our nation as a destination for a so-called persecution of people based on their religious faiths.”
He called on the gathering to resist the wrong claims about happenings in Nigeria and instead counter with the truth by using relevants instruments within their purview to cast the country in good light.
“This is a propaganda externally woven by those who want to weaken our unity. For the umpteenth time, I am emphatic that there’s no iota of truth in the claim of a ‘Christian Genocide’ in Nigeria. I therefore urge us to use the instruments of public relations, crafted in truths and facts, to vehemently reject these despicable single narratives about Nigeria.”
The denial follows earlier claims that terrorists operating in Nigeria are engaged in a systematic genocide against Christians.
However, the government has strongly condemned and categorically refuted the allegations. It noted that violent activities of terrorist groups are not confined to any particular religious or ethnic community, stressing that these criminals target all who reject their murderous ideology, regardless of faith.
The Minister on Monday, added that Nigeria is undergoing a transformative process under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and the efforts and achievements of the government need to be properly communicated to the public.
“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, the world is seeing a Nigeria that is reforming, rebranding, and re-emerging—driven by innovation, private sector growth, and renewed international confidence. Hosting this global event will reaffirm that Nigeria is not only the communication hub of Africa but also a responsible global partner in shaping narratives for peace, prosperity, and shared progress,” Idris said.
