Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has called out an individual operating a fake Facebook page using her name and pictures to deceive the public.
Naijaonpoint reports that the actress said the impersonator runs a blog with over 2.7 million followers, where false stories are posted in her name.
She made this known through a video shared on her Instagram page, where she expressed anger over how the person has been spreading fake news and misleading her fans.
According to her, many people believe the Facebook page belongs to her, not knowing it is being used by someone else to make money from her image and reputation.
Ojo said she had previously reported the account to Facebook, but the impersonator quickly changed the name to “Iyabo Ojo Lovers,” making it appear like a fan page.
She explained that she joined Facebook herself mainly to expose such fake accounts and protect her identity from being abused.
The actress said she has been aware of the impersonation for a long time, but the situation became worse after she noticed that her posts and activities were being copied from her verified page and reposted by the fake account.
She described the act as deceitful and warned the person behind it to delete her name and pictures immediately.
Ojo also spoke against the broader issue of impersonation on social media, saying that several accounts on Facebook and TikTok have been pretending to be her.
She said that such behaviour damages her credibility and confuses her audience, as people keep sending her messages asking about posts she never made.
The actress urged the impersonator and others involved in similar acts to stop using her identity to mislead the public.
She warned that if the fake page continues to operate under her name, she will take further steps to ensure it is taken down completely.
She said: “This video is directed to whoever it is that is impersonating me and using my name. It has 2.7 million followers on Facebook. I have tried to report this account to Facebook. The person went and changed it to Iyabo Ojo Lovers, so at the time, Facebook thought it was my fan page. This is not my page. I don’t know who owns it, and I don’t know who created it.
“A lot of people think I own the page. That’s why I joined Facebook myself, to report pages like this. Take my name off this page and my picture. Take it off. Because the next time you will look for this page, it will be gone. I’m not capping with you.
“You’ve used my name to gather 2.7 million followers. If you know you want to be a blogger, don’t be greedy. Create your own identity now. Everything I post on my page, you go and post on this page. You are definitely monitoring me.
“Why are you using my name to be blogging? Making people feel like I’m a blogger. And it’s not funny anymore because you put my pictures there and you blog, you carry different news. It’s madness.
“I know there are a lot of people impersonating me on Facebook, on TikTok, everywhere. But this particular one has been verified and has a lot of followers. Every day I keep getting messages in my DMs like, ‘Did you write this? Did you post this?’”
