The Senator representing Osun Central, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has explained why an electricity pole was left standing in the middle of a newly constructed road in his constituency.
Over the weekend, residents raised concerns about the project on Oduola Street, Oke Okanla, Osogbo, after photos surfaced online showing the electric pole obstructing the middle of the road.
The image quickly went viral, sparking criticism of both the lawmaker and the contractor for failing to address the issue before completing the project.
Reacting to the backlash, Senator Fadeyi clarified that the responsibility for relocating electricity poles lies with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
He stressed that his role was to facilitate the construction of the road as part of his constituency projects, while IBEDC was expected to handle the removal and repositioning of power installations.
Fadeyi, in a post on X, wrote, “My attention has been drawn to a viral picture of a road facilitated in my constituency. It’s on record that the last time the road was constructed was in 1988. Since then, no government has ever seen any reason to construct it. Also the relocation of electricity poles
was not in the bill of Quantities and should be done by the IBEDC.”
