Threads may get support for a community groups feature

Threads, the service that was born to take on X, could receive a feature that would boost its social options. Many similar platforms offer groups as one of their main features. Now, new findings suggest that Threads will receive support for community groups in the future.

Meta launched Threads as a social media platform derived from Instagram. However, there are many Instagram features that are not present in Threads, since the approach of both is a bit different. Recently, Threads inherited the feature of location-tagging posts from Instagram. That said, if Threads really does receive community groups, it would offer a feature that is not even present on its parent platform.

Community groups would boost Threads’ social options

Many social media services offer their own approach to community groups. They are quite useful for finding people with similar tastes to interact and share with. Whether you are a fan of a show, a movie, an artist, or a football team, there is a group available out there for you. Platforms like Facebook and X support community groups and even messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.

Next on the list would be Threads, which would implement community groups under the name “Loops.” Chris Messina, one of the first users of Threads, spotted the first hints of the new feature in the app’s code. According to the source, there are strings that refer to the ability to join, leave, and rename communities. Furthermore, according to TechCrunch, an anonymous source confirmed to them that the app’s developers are working on the feature. However, the project is still in its early stages and has not even undergone testing.

First look at Threads’ Loops UI

Additionally, tipster Alessandro Paluzzi provided a preview of the new “Loops” shortcut in the composer post. Another image shows that you could link Loops with tags, presumably to make them easier to find. It is possible that it works similarly to tags in Instagram posts. Being in such an early stage of development, most details about Threads’ Loops or communities are unknown. It is even possible that the dev team’s general idea about Loops will receive significant modifications. Anyway, more news on this will likely emerge in the coming weeks.
