The current residents at the Ebedi International Writers Residency in Iseyin, Nigeria, Left to Right in above picture: Tunde Akingbondere, Stephen Mokuye (both from Nigeria) and Prince Litela Agbemedu ( Ghana) yesterday visited the Ado Awaye Hanging Lake as part of their cultural outreach program.

The Lake reputed to be one of the only two such lakes in the world ( the other one is in Colorado, USA) is fed by rainwater runoff and is approximately 350m sq in surface area and sits on a mountain approximately 300 meters above sea level.

The world’s most famous “Hanging Lakes” are the natural Hanging Lake in Colorado, USA, known for its travertine pools and turquoise water, and Nigeria’s Ado Awaye Lake in Oyo State, considered Africa’s only natural suspended lake, and the world’s second, both perched on mountainsides and steeped in local legend.

The Ebedi International Writers Residency, a free facility for African Writers in need of a conducive environment to complete their ongoing works has since hosted about 360 Writers from 12 African countries since its establishment in 2010.
