Three members of the House of Representatives have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), further depleting the ranks of the main opposition party in the lower chamber.

The lawmakers include:

Taofeek Ajilesoro, representing Ife Central/East/North/South Federal Constituency of Osun State.

Omirin Olusanya, representing Atakunmosa East/West/Ilesha East/West Federal Constituency, also of Osun State.

Marcus Onobun, who represents Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in Edo State.

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read the formal defection letters during Wednesday’s plenary session, officially acknowledging the exit of the lawmakers from the PDP.

The latest defections are coming on the heels of a similar wave in the Senate, where four PDP senators defected to the APC on the same day, signalling a growing momentum for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Naijaonpoint had earlier reported that the senators, on Wednesday, formally defected to the ruling APC, citing “irreconcilable differences” within their former party as the reason for their decision.

The defection letters were read on the floor of the Red Chamber by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Senator Akpabio, after reading the individual letters, directed the Clerk of the Senate to formally document the defections.
