Three people have been rescued from a kidnapping attempt in Taraba State by troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS)
It was gathered that the rescue operation followed a swift intelligence conducted by the security operatives on January 5, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Brigade Public Relations Officer Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Army said it had received a credible intelligence report by troops of 6 Brigade deployed at Jeb Jeb town.
According to Muhammad, the reports indicated that there were activities of suspected kidnappers witnessed in Sangai Village, Bachama Ward of Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
He said acting on the intelligence, the troops were immediately deployed to the kidnappers’ camp and they pursued towards the border area between Taraba and Plateau State.
He added that the suspects on sighting the troops abandoned their captives and fled.
He said, “Consequently, troops successfully rescued Nimron Umar (25 years), Abafaras Ibrahim (20 years), and Habila Yunusa (23 years).
“The rescued victims are currently in military custody, where they are receiving necessary care and documentation, after which they will be reunited with their respective families,” Muhammad said.
He commended the operatives for their resilience and professionalism while reaffirming the command’s committment to flushing the criminals out of the Taraba and its environs.
