Tika Sumpter and her biracial daughter took photos for a new Mother magazine photoshoot, and it was pretty strange.

The entire photoshoot showed Tika and her daughter, in their Los Angeles home. But daughter Ella’s face was hidden in all the pictures. All you see is that back of her flowing blonde head.
It’s a bit odd to do a whole spread – and hide the little girl in all the pictures. I mean … why show her at all, if you didn’t want o show her???

Tika recently invited MOTHER magazine to her beautiful California home (including Ella’s dreamy playroom/library). She gave a full interview where she discussed her motherhood journey, career ups and downs, and her latest projects—including Sonic 3, which hits theaters December 20th.

“Motherhood has shown me that I’m more than ‘just a mom.’ Don’t get me wrong, being a mother is one of the most fulfilling parts of my life, but I’m also an entrepreneur, a wife, a friend, and so much more,” she says, in one of our favorite moments of the interview.
“I’ve learned that it’s okay for my identity to keep shifting. It took time to realize that I didn’t have to lose myself in motherhood. I can still pursue my dreams and honor all the parts of who I am.”
