The Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has dismissed reports linking his principal to an alleged coup plot, describing them as “false, baseless, and politically motivated.”

Julius Bokoru, in a statement on Wednesday, said Sylva had no connection to any coup-related activity and reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress.

“Chief Timipre Sylva remains a committed democrat and supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These rumours are the handiwork of political opponents trying to tarnish his image ahead of 2027,” Bokoru stated.

While denying any coup involvement, Bokoru confirmed that Sylva’s Abuja residence was recently raided by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters.

“For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, considerable damage was inflicted on the property,” he said.

He added that the reason for the raid was never disclosed by the operatives, stressing that Sylva and his wife were both out of the country at the time.

Bokoru explained that the former Bayelsa State governor was undergoing routine medical checks in the United Kingdom and was scheduled to attend a professional conference in Malaysia thereafter.

“As of my last communication with His Excellency, he was undergoing routine medical checks in the United Kingdom, after which he was scheduled to attend a professional conference in Malaysia,” he noted.

Bokoru urged the public to ignore what he described as politically sponsored propaganda, insisting that democratic values had always shaped Sylva’s political career.

He also recalled that the Defence Headquarters had publicly refuted claims of any coup plot, stressing that the allegations were designed only to mislead the public.
