A legal practitioner, John Aikpokpo-Martins, has faulted the police over the review of the court on the tinted glass permit.
Naijaonpoint reports that Aikpokpo-Martins, while responding to questions during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief ‘ programme, said the police lack the power to review a court order on the tinted glass permit.
Speaking on the enforcement, Aikpokpo-Martins opined that the police are trying to turn themselves into a revenue-generating agency.
He said, “The police lack the power to review a court order. That must be well noted. The police are trying to turn themselves into a revenue-generating agency.
“There is a successive court order. It does not lie with the police, rightly or wrongly, to attempt to review another. So that excuse is childish. If, for whatever reason, they believe that the order should be reviewed, they should go back to the court and file review applications.
“We argue that if the court deems it fit and says, ‘Okay, at this stage, I do not think we have to maintain the status quo,’ then the court will review it, not the police.
“Where are the statistics that crimes are arising from the use of tinted glass? Secondly, if the police are on the road—as they usually are—they always tell you to wind down. And for reasonable Nigerians like me, before I get there, I wind down my glass.”
