The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stated that no fewer than sixty northerners have been appointed to key positions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, the President has also fulfilled most of the promises he made to Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Naijaonpoint reports that Idris made this known on Tuesday while speaking during a live Hausa-language phone-in programme, “Hannu Da Yawa,” aired by Radio Nigeria Kaduna.
The minister recalled that prior to the 2023 elections, President Tinubu had addressed leaders at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, where he made commitments to tackle insecurity, improve education, and revamp agriculture in the region.
“Let it be known that when he won the election, Tinubu kept his promises to the North,” Idris stated.
He explained that Tinubu’s administration had not only prioritised these areas but also carried the North along in governance by appointing several northerners to key positions.
Listing some of the high-level appointments, Idris said the North produced key officials such as the Minister of Defence, National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, and Ministers of Agriculture, Health, Women Affairs, Arts and Culture, among others.
“In fact, we are more than 60 from the North working with Tinubu,” he said.
Idris, who is himself from the North, said these appointments and policy focus are strong indicators that Tinubu remains committed to his electoral promises.
No Truth In Claims Of Northern Neglect
The minister described as misinformation the suggestion in some quarters that the North had been sidelined by the Tinubu administration.
“There has been some misinformation that Tinubu had sidelined the North. But today, we have demonstrated and seen that such a narrative is not true. In fact, he has done so well for the North,” Idris asserted.
Idris noted that the administration is only two years into its term and promised that more projects and programmes would be delivered across the country.
“This is two years into his administration, and we are at the foundation with over 20 ministers and others to narrate all the promises fulfilled and some remarkable achievements touching not only the North but the whole country,” he said.
The Minister also assured that his team would continue to enlighten citizens, particularly in the North, about the successes of the Tinubu-led administration.
