PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of 555 individuals to serve as Pro-chancellors/Chairmen and members of Governing Boards across 111 federal universities, polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.

Tinubu approved a list of nominees put forward by the Ministry of Education, as indicated in an advertorial signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Didi Esther Walson-Jack.

Each institution will have a chairperson and four members on its Governing Board.

The inauguration and retreat for these Governing Councils are scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 30, and Friday, May 31, 2024, at the National Universities Commission in Abuja.

The Presidency confirmed that the list originated from the Ministry of Education, emphasizing that the Ministry is responsible for nominations and the President’s approval.

These appointments come in the midst of concerns raised by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) regarding the delay in appointing Governing Councils, which could potentially impact the academic calendar and the higher education sector in Nigeria.
