President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Barrister Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi).

Naijaonpoint reports that this was disclosed on Friday in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, Ahmed will oversee the strategic implementation and operations of the PCNGi, a flagship component of the Federal Government’s response to the challenges arising from fuel subsidy removal.

“The Presidential CNG Initiative is a critical part of President Tinubu’s palliative intervention programme, aimed at promoting cleaner, cheaper, and more accessible energy alternatives for Nigerians,” the statement noted.

The initiative is expected to expand access to compressed natural gas as a cost-effective substitute to petrol, especially for transport and small-scale industrial users.

Ahmed, 45, brings to the role years of policy and administrative experience. He is a law graduate from the University of Abuja (Class of 2005) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006.

In 2008, he earned a master’s degree in international relations, communications, and diplomacy from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

He previously served as the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Programme from 2018 to 2022, where he played a key role in implementing major social welfare initiatives.
