Tinubu appoints Omotenioye Majekodunmi as NCCC DG

Tinubu 32

PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).

Majekodunmi, who was appointed in June 2024 as the Council’s pioneer head, replaces Dr. Nkiruka Madueke. Her appointment was announced in a statement released yesterday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Majekodunmi is a seasoned climate finance expert and environmental lawyer with over 17 years of experience.

She has collaborated with various national and international institutions on renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance.

Before this appointment, she served as the financial adviser to the NCCC and was instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and international climate negotiations.

President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Dr. Madueke for her committed service and for laying a solid foundation for the Council’s development.

“Majekodunmi’s appointment underscores this administration’s resolve to address climate change as both a critical environmental issue and a catalyst for economic growth, national security, and inclusive development,” the statement added.
