PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a major reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals, lowering the fee per session from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
The announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Information, Daniel Bwala, who confirmed via his official X handle that the subsidy has already taken effect in federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
According to Bwala, the move is expected to bring much-needed relief to thousands of Nigerians struggling with kidney-related illnesses.
Facilities already implementing the reduced fee include the Federal Medical Centres in Ebute-Metta, Jabi, Owerri, Abeokuta, and Azare, as well as major teaching hospitals such as UCH Ibadan, LUTH Lagos, UBTH Benin, UMTH Maiduguri, and UCTH Calabar.
He further disclosed that additional hospitals will be included before the year ends, ensuring wider nationwide access.
This initiative follows President Tinubu’s earlier approval of free caesarean sections in federal hospitals, a policy designed to strengthen maternal healthcare and reduce preventable deaths among expectant mothers.
“These measures reflect the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action—ensuring that no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of cost,” Bwala said.
