PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian political leaders to focus on policies and resources that address the needs of the poor and vulnerable.

Speaking at a Ramadan fast-breaking event in Abuja yesterday night, Tinubu hosted governors, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Service Chiefs, and key officials from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

He called for selflessness among leaders, emphasizing their responsibility to serve the people.

“I appreciate your presence here tonight. You honored this invitation out of respect, not because you lack food to eat or share,” Tinubu stated, as conveyed in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

The President stressed the importance of leaders in meeting public expectations, commending people-focused policies that have led to improvements in human development and economic indicators.

He also credited the success of economic reforms to the efforts of the FEC and cooperation at the state level.

“In our first FEC meeting, I mentioned that we would work hard to fetch water from a dry well. We are still working to ensure there is water to drink and that government funds are spent wisely, not at the expense of the people,” he said.

He further encouraged political leaders to act with the future in mind, ensuring their contributions leave a lasting impact.

“Look at yourselves as navigators that will bring the country to the promised land. Standing here as President is a great honour, and you can’t trade it.
“Continue doing what you are doing. And do more for the people,” he urged.

Tinubu likened Nigeria to a family living in a house with different rooms, emphasizing unity and collective responsibility among leaders.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, lauded Tinubu for his bold economic reforms.

Similarly, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, who led Christian prayers, noted the significance of both Muslims and Christians fasting simultaneously.

Additionally, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, highlighted the steady decline in food and commodity prices, attributing it to the government’s economic policies.

He commended Tinubu’s leadership and courage in implementing reforms.
