Tinubu Different From Obasanjo, Buhari, Jonathan, He’s The First Real Politician To Become President In Nigeria – Sowunmi

A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Segun Sowunmi, has described President Bola Tinubu as the first real politician to contest and win the presidency in Nigeria.

Sowunmi stated that the likes of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari who are all former Presidents of Nigeria, can’t be described as real politicians, arguing that they all got to the position based on circumstances.

He also submitted that to engage President Tinubu, opposition politicians must make sure to put their best foot forward.

Naijaonpoint reports that Sowunmi made the submission on Tuesday during an interview appearance on TVC.

Highlighting the unique challenges Tinubu’s leadership poses to opposition politics, the PDP chieftain said opposition parties need to recalibrate their strategies, and ensure a deliberate approach to ensure accountability in governance.

He said, “President Bola Tinubu is the first real politician that has won an election and is president. President Obasanjo couldn’t call himself a politician; he was a soldier. President Buhari couldn’t call himself a politician; he’s a soldier. Jonathan really couldn’t call himself a politician, like that we just came in over the misery of others.

“But Bola Tinubu is a politician. So if we’re to engage him, and if we’re to ensure that he doesn’t run away with the jar, the cookie pot, and the cookie itself, we must have a way to bring quality minds to think about this democracy vis-a-vis how opposition plays.”
