The Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of being very vicious and working to destroy Nigeria’s democracy.

Naijaonpoint reports that Tanko, in an interview with Daily Post, stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) accuses opposition politicians of being criminals, but they are engaging in total criminality against the masses.

He further warned that the opposition should prepare for more attacks from the government.

He said, “This particular government is very vicious, and I want to prepare the minds of some of us in the opposition, at least one out of so many things that will be unleashed on the opposition.

“The truth about this is that anybody that joined the APC is seen as a changed person, while those who are against the APC government are seen to be a criminal.

“Meanwhile, they indulge in total criminality against the people. And so this will be one out of so many. I am not even sure that some of us will not be attacked pretty soon. But it’s totally undemocratic what they are doing.

“They have also made it clear that they are out to destroy democracy. This government is out to destroy democracy. But they should be on notice that the Nigerian people are watching. The international community is also watching.”

Tanko alleged that the administration was undermining the constitution and the United Nations Charter, suppressing the voice and rights of the people.

While describing the move as unacceptable, Tanko vowed that the opposition would continue to resist and speak the truth to power.

He stated, “So we call on everybody to take notice that the opposition in government at the moment is trying to undermine democracy in totality, destroying the fabric of society. The international community should take a quick stand before things just reach an uncontrolled level.

“The voice of the people is being held down. The action and the abilities of the people are being completely denied. The right for freedom completely as enshrined in Chapter 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as encapsulated by the United Nations Charter, is being undermined.

“We in the opposition will totally reject this as totally unacceptable to us, and we will continue to speak truth to power and will also continue to perform our duties, ask for permission, which is part of democracy.

“We cannot be cowed on a continuous basis because you belong to a group which you have a constitutional right to do.”

On the issue of corruption, Tanko maintained that the opposition will not shield wrongdoers in its ranks but demanded fairness.

He added, “We have never condoned any kind of corrupt tendency in our side. So we are not going to use deodorant on our people and then deal with other persons with insecticide. We are asking that fairness should be meant to everybody.

“A case in study is the lady that was thrown out of the airline. Of course, she had done a lot of wrong by not adhering to the directive of the flight rules. But we have another person who stood in front of the aircraft endangering a number of people.

“That particular person has not been arrested or put into detention. So you can see the kind of selective justice that this particular government is doing.”
