A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has alleged that the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu is backing Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano as a strategy for the 2027 election.
Naijaonpoint reports that Galadima made the claim on Monday during a guest appearance on Channels Television’s interview.
According to him, the federal government is supporting Bayero against Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II as a way to have an inroad into Kano in the 2027 elections.
It would be recalled that both Bayero and Sanusi are laying claim to the Kano Emirate stool, setting up the ancient town in a face-off between tradition and politics.
Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II beat Aminu Ado Bayero to succeed the latter’s father, Emir Ado Bayero, in 2014.
After about six years on the throne, Sanusi was deposed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje during his tenure and replaced with Emir Bayero.
However, following a change of government, Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated Sanusi as the Emir of Kano on May 23, 2024.
The development, however, met stiff resistance from the Bayero camp and became a legal matter still pending in the courts.
Galadima, however, submitted on Monday that a federal high court has no business delivering a judgment in a chieftaincy matter.
“In the first place, was it not Tinubu who canvassed for Sanusi to become emir? Let him come out and tell me that he didn’t, and I will give him instances,” he said.
The NNPP chieftain accused the federal government of using the police and other security agencies to destabilise Kano for political interests.
Kwankwaso Won’t Back Tinubu
Despite the intrigues, Galadima insisted that NNPP leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, won’t support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid.
“Let anybody come out and tell me that he met Kwankwaso and he canvassed or persuaded him or coerced him to join the APC.
“I assume if anybody talks to him about that, I ought to know.
“He is the strongest political Iroko in this country today because he dared the APC and defeated them at their game in Kano,” he said.
