The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said there is no plan to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC stated this on Monday in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
The party said its attention had been drawn to the growing speculation suggesting that Shettima may be dropped as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in 2027.
According to the APC, the rumours recently took a new turn with the circulation of names of individuals purportedly being considered as replacements for the Vice President.
“Our party states in categorical terms that the stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” they said.

The speculation took new forms with public claims by figures such as the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, who alleged that President Tinubu was contemplating replacing Shettima, linking the move to criticism of the party’s Muslim–Muslim ticket strategy
However, the APC reminded the public that under existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force,
“At this time, our Party remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and entrenching its bold reforms that are now steadily transforming the economy, building prosperity, and uplifting the living conditions of our people,” the statement read.
The party further called on ministers, senior government officials and party leaders to avoid, whether deliberately or inadvertently, fueling needless speculation, and instead concentrate on their primary responsibility of service to the government and the party.
