WATCH THE VIDEO HERE PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has called for an increased effort in the search and rescue operations for the victims of the helicopter crash that occurred near Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean yesterday, close to Port-Harcourt. The helicopter, operated by East Winds Aviation and registered as 5NBQG, was contracted by NNPC Limited to transport contract staff to the NNPCL facility, FPSO—NUIMS ANTAN. Three individuals have been confirmed dead as a result of the incident. The crash took place at 11:22 a.m. in the waterways of Port Harcourt when the Sikorsky SK76, registered as 5NBQG and operated by East Wind Aviation, departed from the Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) en route to the FPSO – NUIMS ANTAN oil rig. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Odutayo Oluseyi, confirmed that there were eight people on board the aircraft. The helicopter went down in the ocean near Bonny Finima, and authorities have reported that rescue operations are underway. In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu directed military personnel involved in operations in the area to assist with the rescue efforts and provide full support to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant organizations. The president also extended his condolences to the Board and staff of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, as well as to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. He prayed for eternal rest for the three deceased individuals and for comfort for their mourning families.
