PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has pledged to accelerate Nigeria’s development by prioritising technology, food security, and innovation, drawing inspiration from the growth trajectory of emerging economies such as Brazil.
Speaking during an engagement with Nigerians in Brazil today, Tinubu emphasised the need to place Nigeria at the centre of Africa’s advancement.
According to his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President declared: “We must bring Nigeria to the forefront of Africa’s progress, driven by technology, food sovereignty, and the courage to change our destiny.”
The visit to Brazil, Tinubu explained, was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and learning from the South American nation’s transformation.
He noted that both countries once shared similar economic starting points, but Brazil has since made significant strides in agriculture and technology.
“Once upon a time, Nigeria and Brazil stood on the same level. Look at Brazil today, its technology, its food systems. We must ask ourselves: what do they have that we don’t? We have the brains, the energy, and the youth. We have everything we need. Now, we must act,” he stated.
The President commended the Nigerian diaspora in Brazil, describing them as essential stakeholders in the nation’s renewal.
He urged them to contribute their expertise, innovation, and cultural influence toward building a stronger Nigeria. “You are the pride of our nation. Your diversity, your commitment — it reflects the Nigeria we are working to build. I salute you all,” he said.
Acknowledging the economic hardship caused by ongoing reforms, Tinubu likened the process to “bitter medicine” that is painful but necessary for long-term recovery.
He assured citizens that his administration is laying the foundation for global partnerships in manufacturing, technology, and cultural exchange.
The President also called on Nigerians at home and abroad to remain united and committed to shaping a country that inspires pride.
Citing Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka’s resilience at over 90 years old, he concluded: “If Wole Soyinka, at over 90, can still dream and act, then we have no excuse. The dream must be realised. The time is now.
