WATCH THE VIDEO HERE PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting to a later date, which will be announced in due course. The meeting originally set for today, was delayed in tribute to Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on yesterday night. This information was shared today in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. President Tinubu has also directed that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days in honor of the late general. In his earlier statement, the president expressed his deep condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces. He wished Lt. General Lagbaja eternal peace and acknowledged his significant contributions to the country. Lagbaja began his military career by enrolling in the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1987 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992, as a member of the 39th Regular Course. He also served as a platoon commander in both the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion. Throughout his career, he played crucial roles in various internal security operations, including Operation ZAKI in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States. General Lagbaja was the 27th Chief of Army Staff, serving from June 19, 2023, until his passing on November 5, 2024.
