President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Afis Agboola to return as the Provost and Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Aro, Abeokuta, for an additional four-year term.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Salako, shared the President’s decision with Dr. Agboola, who will take up his renewed position starting July 27, 2024, through a letter (Ref. No. PRES/BI/SGF/138/90/MH/B) issued on October 24, 2024.

The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Abiola Ajibola, announced this news to the media on Saturday.

In expressing his congratulations to Dr. Agboola on his reappointment, the minister encouraged him to build upon the successes of his first term and to continue to earn the trust of his colleagues and the public.

The statement read: “The reappointment of the Provost and Medical Director follows his impressive track record of achievements during the first term of his four-year administration.

“Dr Alausa, while presenting the letter and congratulating the Provost on his reappointment, tasked him with working harder to ensure that the hospital continues to provide quality healthcare and to build upon the successes of his first term.”

Earlier, the President approved the reappointment of Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha as the Director General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) for a second five-year term.

The reappointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, recognizing Mustapha’s commendable achievements over the past four years.

Prof. Mustapha’s second tenure commenced on October 31, 2024, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 10 (1) and (3) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022.

Experts view this decision as a testament to President Tinubu’s confidence in Mustapha’s leadership and capability to drive innovation in the biotechnology sector.

His continued role is expected to foster advancements in food security, enhance pharmaceutical production, and position Nigeria at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
