The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians both at home and abroad to unite in defending the country’s image.
Naijaonpoint reports that Dabiri-Erewa stated this following former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to classify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
In a statement e-signed by the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols (NIDCOM), Abdur-Rahman Balogun, and released in Abuja earlier today, Dabiri-Erewa described Nigeria as a nation founded on tolerance, diversity, and democratic values.
She appealed to Nigerians in the diaspora to stay calm and continue portraying the country in its true light.
Referring to earlier remarks by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the NIDCOM boss reaffirmed the government’s stand on religious freedom and peaceful coexistence.
“Nigeria remains steadfast in upholding democracy, religious freedom, and the protection of all citizens,” she said.
Dabiri-Erewa dismissed reports suggesting that Nigeria persecutes Christians, insisting that such claims misrepresent the country’s reality.
“The perception is definitely not true. There are issues with evil terrorists in some parts of the country, no doubt. What President Trump needs to do is to support the efforts of our government in quashing them, not to falsely denigrate our country,” she stated.
She emphasised that President Tinubu has consistently upheld the nation’s commitment to religious liberty and mutual respect, which she said remain key pillars of Nigeria’s unity.
Dabiri-Erewa also encouraged Nigerians living abroad to speak against misinformation and stand firm in projecting the country’s values of peace and inclusivity.
