President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr Olugbenga Owoeye as the substantive Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the hospital’s Director of Administration, Dr Adeyinka Antwi, who noted that the renewed appointment takes effect from June 1, 2025.
Dr Owoeye’s initial four-year tenure officially ended on May 31, 2025. He had been serving in an acting capacity while awaiting approval for renewal from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
Owoeye, the hospital’s most senior consultant, began his medical career after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1994. He became a certified psychiatrist in 2003 and further earned a Master’s and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Lagos in 2005 and 2009, respectively.
He is affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Psychological Association, Nigerian Institute of Management, and is an International Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP I & II).
Dr Owoeye has chaired several strategic committees aimed at improving mental health management. He has received multiple research grants, authored over 30 academic publications, and written a book.
He has also participated in numerous trainings and conferences, both locally and internationally.
