Tinubu recalls NTA DG, director, reverses fresh appointments

Bola Tinubu 1

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the reinstatement of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, and the Executive Director of News, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi.

The development was confirmed on Tuesday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement, titled “President Tinubu recalls DG of NTA, ED News; sets aside fresh appointments,” clarified that both officials would return to complete their tenures.

Dembos, first appointed in October 2023, had briefly vacated office after new appointments were announced at the agency. He has now been directed to resume and complete his three-year tenure.

Similarly, Adewuyi, whose tenure runs until 2027, has been instructed to return as Executive Director of News.

“The new directive effectively reversed the previously announced appointments of a director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises,” the statement added.

The decision effectively nullifies the recent management shake-up at the state-owned broadcaster.

Dembos, a veteran broadcaster with decades of experience, had served in several capacities within NTA before becoming director-general. His reinstatement, analysts say, signals President Tinubu’s preference for continuity in managing the national broadcaster.
