PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), with Musiliu Oseni appointed as its new chairman.
The development was confirmed today by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, who said the reconstitution followed the Senate’s confirmation of the commission’s members.
Oseni, who joined NERC as a commissioner in January 2017 and later served as vice chairman, officially assumed his new role on December 1, 2025.
According to the presidency, his appointment will run until the completion of his 10-year tenure, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Yusuf Ali, first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, was named vice chairman of the board. His designation also took effect from December 1, 2025, and will last until the end of his current term.
Other members of the reconstituted board include Nathan Shatti, who is serving a second term as commissioner after his initial appointment in January 2017, and Dafe Akpeneye, also in his second term, having first joined the commission in the same year.
Aisha Bello, first appointed in December 2020, continues for a second term, while Chidi Ike, initially appointed in February 2022, returns for another stint as commissioner.
Fouad Animashaun joins the board for his first term as commissioner, effective December 2025.
The presidency described him as an energy economist with extensive experience in Nigeria’s power sector, noting that he most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has urged the newly constituted NERC board to strengthen and sustain the ongoing reforms in the power sector, stressing the need for strict adherence to the provisions and intent of the Electricity Act, 2023.
