President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday asked the Senate to confirm three persons as non-career ambassadors.
The nominees are Mr Ayodele Oke, Mr Kayode Are, and Mr Aminu Dalhatu.
The Senate President, Mr Godswill Akpabio, at the plenary today, said the trio are the first set of ambassadorial nominees of Mr Tinubu.
This development is on the back of pressure from various quarters on the President to appoint ambassadors for the country.
A few weeks ago, President Donald Trump of the United States threatened to authorise a military action on terrorists in Nigeria because of what he called the mass killing of Christians in the country.
The federal government had to send a delegation to the United States on the matter in the absence of an ambassador to the US.
Since assuming office over two years ago, Mr Tinubu has not appointed any ambassador. He has been travelling across the world attract investors into the country, a function many said the country’s representatives outside the country should be doing.
While reading a letter from President Tinubu on Wednesday, Mr Akpabio said, “The list contains three names for now; I am sure others will follow.”
