PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate 11 completed road and bridge projects across Nigeria tomorrow, May 31, 2025.
Among them is the first finished section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
The Federal Ministry of Works, in a statement today, announced that the commissioning will be held both physically and virtually.
It includes the formal opening of a 30-kilometre segment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, which stretches from Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island to Eleko Village on the Lekki Peninsula. The project is being handled by Hi-tech Construction Company.
This coastal highway is part of the administration’s flagship Renewed Hope Legacy Projects.
Once completed, the 700-kilometre road will link nine coastal states, aiming to improve transportation, boost economic activities, and promote tourism and investment in the southern corridor of the country.
In addition to the coastal road, the president will also commission 10 other infrastructure projects, including:
Lagos–Ibadan Expressway (Shagamu–Ibadan section) – 166.8km (RCC Nigeria Ltd)
East-West Road (Eleme Junction–Ahoada) – 94km (Setraco Nigeria Ltd)
Alesi–Ugep Road, Cross River – 67.1km (Sermatech Nigeria Ltd)
Ikorodu–Shagamu Road, Lagos/Ogun – 30.4km (Arab Contractors)
Enugu–Lokpanta Expressway (first 16km) – under rehabilitation
New Artisan Market Bridge, Enugu – 75m dual-span (CCECC)
Akpoha Bridge, Ebonyi – 75m single-span (CCECC)
Port Harcourt–Onne Junction (first 15km) – (RCC Nigeria Ltd)
Lagos–Badagry Expressway (Agbara–Seme Border) – 48.6km (CGC Nigeria Ltd)
Also slated for virtual commissioning are ongoing rehabilitation works on parts of the Lagos–Badagry Expressway and the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
President Tinubu will also flag off new projects, including the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha–Akure–Benin highway, the Nembe–Brass road, segments of the Enugu–Onitsha expressway, and the Abakpa flyover in Enugu.
The Minister of Works David Umahi described the Lagos-Calabar Highway as a “signature project” under the Renewed Hope agenda, calling it a model for future road development across Africa.
Dignitaries including state governors, federal ministers, lawmakers, agency heads, and development partners are expected at the commissioning ceremony in Lagos.
