Tinubu To Meet Kwankwaso Over Political Developments In Kano

Kwankwaso and Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu is reportedly set to host former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, to discuss issues affecting the political landscape in Kano State.

Naijaonpoint understands that the meeting between Tinubu and Kwankwaso is set to hold today (Tuesday), barring any unforeseen change in circumstances.

The development was confirmed to Politics Digest by a source familiar with happenings in the state.

It would be recalled that, amidst reports of a pending defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, held a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu on Monday.

The details of the meeting released by the Governor’s spokesperson, however, remained silent on any possibility of defection.

However, the Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, hinted that Governor Yusuf’s defection is expected to happen latest by Wednesday.

Until recently, Senator Kwankwaso had maintained a firm opposition to joining the APC and also reportedly cautioned Governor Yusuf against defecting.

However, his public posture has appeared to soften in recent weeks, with the former Governor disclosing that he would consider defecting if the ruling party could meet his conditions.

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the polity in Kano, a senior APC leader from the North-West confirmed to Politics Digest that the meeting between President Tinubu and Senator Kwankwaso is tentatively scheduled to hold today and would focus on political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The President is keen on broadening his political base.

“The meeting is expected this evening, and discussions will likely focus on national stability, political cooperation and the future alignment of forces ahead of 2027,” the source said.
