President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on another foreign trip just days after returning to Nigeria, with a planned state visit to the Republic of Türkiye.
Politics Nigeria reports that the President will leave Abuja on Monday, January 26, as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to deepen Nigeria’s relationship with the Turkish government.
The visit comes at a time when the administration is pushing for stronger international partnerships in security, trade, and development.
According to official information released by the Presidency, the trip is focused on expanding cooperation between both countries in key sectors. These include security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
The Presidency said, “The visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.”
The statement further explained that Nigeria and Türkiye will hold high-level talks on political and economic interests. It added that, “during President Tinubu’s visit, both countries will engage in strategic political and diplomatic discussions on shared values in finance, communication, trade and investment.”
Several agreements are expected to be signed during the visit. These agreements will cover scientific research, energy development, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and diplomatic protocol. Meetings will be held between senior officials from both countries to finalize these arrangements.
A business forum will also take place as part of the visit. Investors from Nigeria and Türkiye are expected to meet to identify new opportunities for partnership and investment in critical sectors of both economies.
The Presidency noted that, “A business forum will bring together investors from both countries to explore areas of interest during the visit.”
Members of President Tinubu’s delegation include top government officials involved in security, diplomacy, and economic planning. They are expected to participate in bilateral discussions and policy engagements.
Those travelling with the President include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd). The Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson, is also part of the delegation.
Other officials on the trip are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.
The National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, are also listed among the participants.
The Presidency confirmed that President Tinubu will return to Nigeria immediately after concluding the visit.
