President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday announced plans to construct a new national secretariat for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Nigerian leader described the move as part of efforts to provide the party with a more suitable and permanent administrative hub.
Speaking during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC, held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, Tinubu declared, “We’ll look for an appropriate land to build a befitting secretariat.”
Naijaonpoint reports that while the president stopped short of revealing how much would be allocated for the project, the proposal marks a significant infrastructural step for the ruling party, barely a year after Tinubu’s election victory.
It is worth noting that the APC currently operates from the Muhammadu Buhari House, its national secretariat located at 40 Blantyre Street, Wuse II, Abuja.
The property was acquired during the tenure of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and officially named after former President Muhammadu Buhari in June 2021, following the party’s full payment of ₦2.5 billion for the facility.
Party officials had described the acquisition as a major milestone in the APC’s consolidation process at the time.
Interestingly, Thursday’s NEC meeting did not take place at the Buhari House but was instead convened at the Presidential Villa, a move believed to be part of wider reforms aimed at repositioning the party under a renewed leadership structure.
The emergency meeting witnessed the attendance of high-profile APC stakeholders, including President Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and newly confirmed APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
