Tinubu will not achieve much before 2027, says former APC vice chairman

A former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has warned Nigerians against expecting significant achievements from President Bola Tinubu before the end of his current term in 2027.

Speaking on Sunday during an appearance on Channels TV’s Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, Lukman expressed disappointment in Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the President is governing Nigeria differently from his record as Lagos State Governor between 1999 and 2007.

“For you to even expect something very wonderful to happen before May 2027, I will say you are a dreamer. I wish you luck in your dream, but if it happens, it will be a pleasant surprise,” Lukman said.

He stressed that he no longer believes Tinubu embodies the progressive ideals he once associated with him and added that the current state of governance calls for a new wave of political organisation and leadership renewal.

He said: “I have reached the conclusion that I don’t think anything good is going to come out, and that is why we have to start organising.

“This country can be fixed in our lifetime, and I pray to God to give us the strength and courage to engage our leaders.”

Lukman also referenced the need for a more credible and principled political coalition, noting that the failure of the APC has stressed the importance of building new political movements on a strong foundation.

His words: “If, after failing with the APC, we organise another coalition that becomes business as usual, it would be a disservice.

“We owe it to Nigerians to get it right. It is possible to fix this country in our lifetime.”
