Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s administration over its handling of the economy, accusing it of plunging Nigerians deeper into poverty.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Amaechi said the current government had “completely buried” the economy with policies that offer no relief to struggling citizens.
Naijaonpoint reports that the former governor of Rivers State condemned the government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy and float the naira, arguing that despite promises of long-term benefits, Nigerians have seen no tangible gains.
He said, “The current government has completely buried the economy. Any economy that does not put money in the pockets of individuals in Nigeria is not an economic policy.
“You’re making savings from removing the subsidy, from floating the naira, where is the money? Where is it going?”
The former APC chieftain lamented the widening inequality under the Tinubu administration, claiming that wealth is now concentrated among those in power while the masses continue to suffer.
He said, “We have a situation where only members of this government are in the rich class. The middle class has vanished, and the poor are increasing.”
Amaechi, in a warning to the current administration, said the worsening cost of living could drive the most vulnerable to the brink of extinction.
“At this rate, a time will come when we won’t even see the poor anymore, they’ll have all died,” he said.
