Jonathan condemned the suspension, asserting that such actions could damage the country’s reputation. According to a report from Channels TV, the former president made these remarks during the Haske Satumari Foundation Colloquium in Abuja on Saturday. “These actions by key figures in the executive and legislative branches of government cast the country in a negative light,” he stated. He acknowledged that it is generally unusual for former presidents to comment on current political issues in order to avoid exacerbating tensions. However, he emphasised that the nation’s image and its attractiveness to investors are profoundly influenced by the conduct of the executive, legislature, and judiciary. Jonathan also clarified that his comments were prompted by numerous calls from Nigerians urging him to weigh in on the situation in Rivers State, reflecting his prominence as a son of the Niger Delta.
