James Bond isn’t known for his festive spirit, alcohol consumption aside. Yet, strangely, something feels right about watching James Bond movies during the holiday season. Perhaps it’s the tradition of 007’s adventures being shown on TV in December, or the sense of timeless longevity, or maybe the generational appeal that connects grandparents, parents, and children alike.
Alas, it is James Bond’s previous missions that fans will be left to enjoy for the time being. Bond 26‘s timeline remains unclear, despite Amazon moving forward without 007’s usual producers and the more recent announcement of Denis Villeneuve as director. Fortunately, December brings good news for Bond fans who enjoy a good bargain as much as they enjoy high-adrenaline action.
On December 1, Pluto TV will have all 25 official James Bond movies available to stream for free for a limited time. Ranging from Sean Connery in 1962’s Dr. No to Daniel Craig killing off 007 in 2021’s No Time to Die, the perfect time for a Bondathon has arrived. The selection can be viewed on the appropriately named Pluto TV 007, Pluto TV 007 en Español, and on-demand.
Most James Bond movies were already available on Pluto TV, but December 1 completes the set with Sean Connery’s first three entries (Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger) and Daniel Craig’s penultimate outing, Spectre, meaning the Bondathon can finally commence. For those interested, watching every single official James Bond movie back-to-back would take around 2 days and 8 hours to complete.
It speaks to the overall quality of the Bond franchise that, despite very little continuity between films, none of those 25 movies demand skipping. Sure, you’re very unlikely to enjoy Die Another Day and A View to a Kill as much as Goldfinger and Casino Royale, but even 007’s less brilliant releases still carry redeeming features. You might just find that a once-disappointing Bond movie now possesses a strange charm in the franchise’s own unique fashion.
Completing the Bondathon also highlights the biggest strength of James Bond’s past 60 years of cinematic exploits: there has never been a bad Bond. Sean Connery and Roger Moore both outstayed their respective welcomes, while George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton weren’t appreciated enough at the time, but every single James Bond actor makes the role their own and has at least one great movie to their name.
It’s not without reason that James Bond is among the biggest and longest-running brands on the big screen, and the fact that we still get excited by the prospect of watching 007’s escapades all in one place is testament to the spy’s unmatched staying power.
