OBLIQUE Seville powered through to the men’s 100 metres gold at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships in a personal best 9.77 seconds today, leading a Jamaican one-two ahead of Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson, second again in 9.82s.
Defending champion Noah Lyles claimed bronze in 9.89s as the United States failed to take the title for the first time since 2015.
Kanyinsola Ajayi, who became the first Nigerian in the final in 18 years, finished in sixth place in 10.00s.
Ajayi, who celebrated his 21st birthday today, has had an impressive run in the competition, setting a new personal best of 9.88s in the first round on yesterday, and clocking 9.93s in the semi-finals earlier today.
Seville had looked the man to beat through the rounds in last year’s Olympics but finished last in the final.
