Several fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been killed, and a major ammunition dump destroyed, following precision airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.

The coordinated bombardments were conducted on Sunday by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, targeting terrorist enclaves in the Arinna Waje general area.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development via 𝕏 on Sunday, said the strikes were carried out after credible intelligence and persistent surveillance confirmed a large gathering of ISWAP fighters.

This operation reportedly occurred five days after a violent clash between ISWAP and a rival Boko Haram faction in the region.

“NAF aircraft were scrambled to engage the identified locations in a series of well-coordinated bombardments,” Makama quoted military sources as saying.

“The strikes, executed with surgical precision, resulted in the total annihilation of several terrorist enclaves and logistics nodes within the target area. One of the airstrikes also triggered a secondary explosion, confirming a direct hit on a major terrorist ammunition storage site,” the source added.

Military sources further revealed that several top ISWAP commanders were among those killed during the operation.

The Nigerian Air Force, operating alongside surface forces and intelligence platforms, reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive aerial and ground offensives aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities across the Lake Chad Basin and Sambisa Forest axis.

“We will maintain the pressure on all terrorist factions until their operational capabilities are completely neutralised,” a military source stated.
