Tottenham’s Bentancur ‘all good’ following disturbing collapse in Carabao Cup semi-final win over Liverpool

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has reassured fans about his condition following a frightening incident in Spurs’ 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg victory over Liverpool, Soccernet.football reports.

The Uruguay international collapsed unchallenged early in the match, sparking immediate concern.

The alarming scene unfolded in the opening minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Bentancur attempted a diving header from a Spurs corner but missed the ball and fell to the ground in distress, with no opposing player near him.

Medics rushed to his aid, providing oxygen before he was stretchered off after nearly nine minutes of treatment. Brennan Johnson came on as his replacement.

At half-time, Tottenham confirmed that Bentancur was conscious and on his way to the hospital for further checks.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou expressed cautious optimism.

“I don’t have all the information,” Postecoglou said. “My understanding is he is conscious and was conscious when he got to the dressing room.

“We took him to the hospital to get him checked over. It was worrying and always a concern, but from what I know, hopefully, he will be OK.”

However, in the early hours of Thursday morning, Bentancur took to Instagram to thank fans for their support.

“All good, guys!” he wrote in an Instagram story. “Thank you for the messages!!! Congratulations [for] the victory boys!!!”

Despite the unsettling start, Ange Postecoglou’s men showed resilience. Lucas Bergvall’s composed finish sealed the win against an in-form Liverpool, avenging their 6-3 Premier League defeat last month.

The victory positions Spurs well ahead of the second leg, though the health of Bentancur, who has been vital in his 18 appearances this season, remains a priority.

Bentancur’s quick recovery will be critical for Spurs as they continue their quest for silverware.
