The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has embarked on road repairs at Nitel Roundabout in Ota to curb the bad habit of motorists driving against traffic.
Mr Hammed Salau, TRACE Divisional Commander in Ota, made this known to newsmen after the exercise on Friday in Ota.
Salau explained that the corps had undertaken the repairs of bad portions of roads across the state including the section at the NITEL roundabout as part of its Corperate Social Responsibility (CSR).
According to him, the effort was aimed at preventing unnecessary loss of lives arising from motorists driving against traffic.
He said that the action was also to compliment the efforts of Ogun state government in road maintenance.
Salau said that the Acting Commander of TRACE, Elias Omonayajo, had directed each command to come up with relevant CSR initiatives that would enhance free flow of traffic and improve road safety within their jurisdictions.
According to him, this prompted the command to come up with this particular road palliative work to ensure sanity on the roads.
“The repairs of the Nitel roundabout was motivated by the Acting TRACE Commander General, who encouraged us to solicit partnership with well meaning individuals and organisations on a CSR. and carriy out the planned projects,” he said.
Salau said that the command decided to repair the Motel roundabout to enhance smooth vehicular navigation following several violations and complaints by motorists trying to avoid bad portions of the road.
He added that navigating the bad portions sometime resulted to traffic infractions, crashes and high number of offenders arrested.
According to him, the Agency is not as interested in apprehending traffic offenders as much as it is interested in collaborating with the motoring public to improve Compliance to Traffic and Safety regulations through collaborative projects.
Salau reiterated the command’s commitment to collaborate with well meaning residents and businesses to erect road safety signage at appropriate places to sensitise motorists on road requirements on the Ota road and its environs.
Salau commended South-West Zonal Commander of TRACE, Ajibade Adekunle, for leadership skills, administrative and managerial supports to his Division.
“I sincerely appreciate Mr Adekunle for his unwavering support and the needed leverage provided for the successful execution of this palliative work and many others under our Division in Ota.”he said.
He also appreciated residents for providing resources used for the procurement of the hard core materials, gravel and laterite used to fill the failed portions of the road. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
