Lagos Govt Issues 48-Hour Eviction Notice to Traders on Lagos Island Oja Oba; Traders Criticize Short Notice, Lack of Relocation Plan

The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has issued a 48-hour eviction notice to traders selling and residing on the median from Ebute-Ero-Iga Idungaran to Oja Oba in Lagos Island .

The directive, announced by Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab on Saturday, March 15, is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness, restore order, and enhance safety across the state.

According to Wahab, the government is enforcing its zero-tolerance policy against environmental violations, warning that traders must vacate the illegal spaces immediately.

However, the short notice has sparked criticism, with traders and residents raising concerns over the lack of a relocation plan or alternative spaces for those affected. Many have called on the government to provide solutions before displacing them.
