Fulham are reportedly advancing in negotiations to secure the services of electric Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze from AC Milan before the close of this summer’s transfer window, Footynaija.com understands.
Chukwueze’s future has been the subject of numerous speculations this summer. Since joining AC Milan from Villarreal two years ago, the Nigeria international has produced only eight goals and an even lesser number of assists (6) with these numbers well below the anticipated output at the time of his acquisition.
This underwhelming impact saw the 26-year-old forward fall down the pecking order in Milan and ultimately fuelled talks of a potential exit. Those rumours appeared to have subsided after Chukwueze’s impressive performances in pre-season but there is a fresh movement from one of the winger’s long time admirers.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Premier League club Fulham are seriously pushing for the signature of the former Villarreal star. The Cottagers are said to be discussing a €25m package with AC Milan as they look to reinforce their wide attacking options before the end of the transfer window.
If Fulham successfully complete this signing, the West London club will unite Chukwueze with his Super Eagles teammates Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi. This could potentially prove pivotal for both Fulham and Chukwueze as the welcoming presence of established familiar faces in a new environment will certainly ease the new recruit’s transition process.
Interestingly, Chukwueze, Bassey and Iwobi were already set to link up in a number of days at the Super Eagles camp for international duty. From the look of things, all three players may well be teammates at club level by the time they join other Nigerian stars for the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
