Travellers stranded as gridlock paralyzes Lagos–Ibadan expressway

Traffic 3

COMMUTERS and motorists were stranded for several hours today as a massive traffic jam brought movement to a halt along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The gridlock, which began around the Sagamu Interchange, has reportedly spread across adjoining routes, including the Abeokuta–Kobape–Siun–Sagamu and PMB expressways.

Traffic officials attributed the congestion to ongoing reconstruction work on the busy highway.

According to reports, many passengers abandoned vehicles to continue their journeys on foot or by commercial motorcycles.

Spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, advised motorists to use alternative routes and remain patient while authorities worked to ease the situation.

He said operatives from TRACE, the Police, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were on the ground managing traffic and coordinating with construction engineers to open closed sections of the road.

Akinbiyi apologized for the inconvenience, assuring travellers that measures were being taken to restore normal movement as quickly as possible.
