Troops of the 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) on Tuesday neutralised a suspected bandit, rescued a kidnapped victim, and recovered weapons during a successful ambush operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Naijaonpoint reports that the operation, which was conducted along the Kampani Zurak–Sabon Gari road, was part of the ongoing Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, aimed at ridding Plateau and its environs of criminal elements.

Disclosing the development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Jos, the Media Information Officer of Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major Samson Zhakom, said troops laid an ambush at a known bandit route after receiving credible intelligence about a recent abduction in the area.

“During the ambush, troops intercepted the criminals conveying their victim on a motorcycle. A brief firefight ensued, leading to the neutralisation of one bandit while others fled into the bush,” Zhakom said.

The troops successfully rescued the kidnapped victim, who was identified as 45-year-old Mr. Adamu Nuhu. According to the military, he is currently receiving appropriate care and support following the rescue.

Items recovered from the scene included one fabricated pistol, one magazine, four rounds of 9mm ammunition, a Boxer motorcycle and personal effects abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

“The recovered arms and equipment are currently in military custody for further investigation,” Zhakom added.

Major Zhakom confirmed that follow-up operations were ongoing in the area to track and apprehend the remaining members of the criminal gang who escaped during the encounter.

The OPSH spokesperson also used the opportunity to reassure residents of the military’s commitment to securing lives and property in the state.
