TROOPS of the Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai have recorded significant successes in counter-insurgency operations across Adamawa and Borno States, killing several terrorists and recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition.
The Acting Media Information Officer of the Task Force, Lieutenant Solomon Atokolo, said the operations followed the disruption of coordinated attacks planned by terrorists in parts of the North-East.
According to him, fleeing fighters suffered heavy losses during subsequent pursuit operations by troops.
He explained that in the early hours of January 16, 2026, terrorists attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, under Sector 4 of Operation Hadin Kai.
The attack was swiftly repelled by alert troops, with reinforcements from Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force.
The statement noted that the attackers were forced to retreat without any casualties or loss of equipment on the side of the troops.
The area was later secured and searched for improvised explosive devices and other threats to ensure the safety of both civilians and military personnel.
On the same day, terrorists also launched a large-scale, multi-directional assault on the Forward Operating Base in Azir, Borno State.
While they initially attempted to breach the base’s defensive perimeter, they were met with sustained firepower from ground troops, supported by the Air Component and other Nigerian Army aerial platforms, forcing them to withdraw.
During the engagement, rocket-propelled grenade fire from the attackers damaged some troop-carrying vehicles and the base’s CCTV control room, which were partially affected by fire.
Despite the damage, troops maintained control of the situation.
Several weapons and large quantities of ammunition were recovered after the operations, including a 60mm mortar tube, mortar bombs, locally fabricated explosive devices, heavy machine gun ammunition, and hundreds of rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
The military said the operations reflect ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist capabilities and secure communities across the North-Eastern region.
