The Defence Headquarters, on Thursday, said troops across various theatres of operation in the country rescued 318 kidnapped victims and arrested 74 suspects involved in terrorism, oil theft, and other crimes in the month of November.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this in Abuja while briefing journalists on recent military operations nationwide.
Onoja said troops recorded significant successes in counter-terrorism operations, including the surrender of 69 terrorists and their family members in the North-East.
“Accordingly, for the month of November, several terrorists, bandits, extremists and other criminal elements were arrested, scores were neutralised, and over 69 of them and their family members surrendered, while 318 kidnapped victims were also rescued,” he stated.
The military also intensified operations against oil theft during the period under review.
According to Onoja, “Troops intensified operations against oil theft, arresting 25 suspects, deactivating 16 illegal refining sites and recovering stolen petroleum products valued at ₦217,664,618. The recovered items included 201,700 litres of crude oil and 88,177 litres of Automotive Gas Oil.”
Maj. Gen. Onoja commended the troops for their dedication and urged them to sustain the momentum. He also called on the public to provide credible intelligence to aid security efforts.
“We continue to solicit the support of all Nigerians in this regard,” he said, while encouraging citizens to support the Armed Forces Remembrance Day by purchasing the emblem launched by President Bola Tinubu on December 2, 2025.
Onoja also addressed concerns over recent abductions of students, assuring that the military is taking all necessary measures to secure their safe release.
“The AFN also wishes to inform all Nigerians that we are emplacing all necessary measures, systems and activities humanly possible to ensure that the remaining students recently abducted are rescued and returned to their families unhurt,” he said.
