Turaki-Led PDP Faction Merges With Wike’s Camp In Rivers

PDP New

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has formally dissolved its structure and merged into the Aaron Chukwuemeka-led faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Naijaonpoint reports that the announcement was made on Friday by Robinson Nname Ewor, the factional chairman of the Turaki-led PDP in Rivers, during Wike’s visit to Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.

Ewor, who had earlier on Thursday accused Governor Fubara of misleading party members by claiming he could defeat Wike politically, said he was relinquishing leadership of his faction to Chukwuemeka.

He said, “Finally, before I go. I’m Sim’s PDP Chairman. I hope you people know. You people should know. I’m his Chairman.

“Today, I’m handing over that Chairmanship, leadership of that faction to Aaron Chukwuemeka.”

He declared that with the move, there was no longer any factional divide within the PDP in Rivers State.

“PDP is no longer factionalised in Rivers State. PDP is under one Chairman and under one leadership, under the FCT leader,” he added.

In other news, some political heavyweights in Rivers State have thrown their weight behind Fubara.

Naijaonpoint reports that those backing Fubara include former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara; former Minister of Transportation, Abiye Sekibo; and former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia.

Governor Fubara disclosed their support on Thursday during the 2026 New Year State Banquet at Government House, Port Harcourt.

According to the governor, the political leaders’ presence at the event was a clear signal of their backing.

He acknowledged the presence of the political figures at the event and emphasised that their decisions had dispelled claims and blackmail that he was aligning with individuals working against the President’s interests.
