Two PDP Lawmakers Defect To APC In Edo

Two lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State House of Assembly on Friday dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC), further depleting the PDP’s numbers in the ninth Assembly.

The defectors are Eugene Inegbeboh, representing Igueben Constituency, and Andrew Uzamere, member for Ovia II Constituency.

Naijaonpoint reports that with the latest development, PDP’s representation in the 24-member Assembly has dropped from 15 to just four, while the APC now holds 20 seats, further consolidating its grip on the legislature.

The lawmakers were received at the APC State Secretariat in Benin City by the Edo State Chairman of the party, Jarrett Tenebe, who described the defection as a reflection of growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and vision for the state.

“Your coming is a reinforcement of what we stand for. We are welcoming two proven leaders whose experience will further enrich our party’s vision and grassroots reach,” Tenebe stated.

He assured the new entrants of equal treatment within the party structure.

“There is no old or new membership in APC. We are one family. The same honour and expectations accorded to long-standing members are equally extended to you,” he added.

Tenebe also called on residents of the state to support Governor Monday Okpebholo, describing him as a leader with people-focused programmes and a commitment to inclusive governance.

“Let us all take today as a reminder that the strength of the APC lies not just in our numbers, but in our unity, our discipline and our shared belief in a better Edo,” the party chairman said.

Speaking at the event, the newly defected lawmakers expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for the warm reception, pledging to contribute actively to the party’s progress and the development of the state.

Naijaonpoint recalls that three members of the House of Representatives had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier in the week, further depleting the ranks of the main opposition party in the lower chamber.

The lawmakers include: Taofeek Ajilesoro, representing Ife Central/East/North/South Federal Constituency of Osun State.

Omirin Olusanya, representing Atakunmosa East/West/Ilesha East/West Federal Constituency, also of Osun State.

Marcus Onobun, who represents Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in Edo State.

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read the formal defection letters during Wednesday’s plenary session, officially acknowledging the exit of the lawmakers from the PDP.
