UAE president to visit Nigeria in 2025, strengthen bilateral ties

UNITED Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is set to visit Nigeria in 2025, according to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga in a statement, revealed that President Bola Tinubu extended the invitation to the UAE leader during their bilateral discussions yesterday night at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025.

Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday as a guest of the UAE President to take part in the forum, which promotes collective efforts to tackle global challenges like climate change, as well as water and energy crises.

Onanuga noted that the UAE leader expressed gratitude to his Nigerian counterpart for accepting the invitation and reiterated the UAE’s commitment to enhancing economic collaboration with Nigeria.

The two leaders also discussed attracting investments into Nigeria. “President Tinubu emphasized that his government’s economic reforms are beginning to show results and urged the UAE to collaborate with Nigeria for economic development,” said the presidential spokesman.

Onanuga added that Tinubu thanked Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation since their arrival over the weekend.

Accompanying Tinubu to the meeting at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi were Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, and H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan were among those who accompanied the UAE President.

Other UAE officials present at the meeting included Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; and Salem Saeed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria.
